When we talk about coaching, we often focus on goals, mindset, strategies. But beneath it all – there’s something more subtle, more powerful: energy.
Call it vibe, presence, EGNI (the Welsh word for energy, which I love and live by) – it’s what animates change. It’s what sparks insight in a coaching session. It’s what makes you feel like you can take on the world, or hide from it.
Energy is the invisible fuel of transformation.
And yet, it’s rarely talked about in a practical way. Let’s change that.
The Energy Gap
According to a recent report, 60% of people feel emotionally detached at work, and 19% report feeling actively miserable. That’s a staggering energy deficit. And it doesn’t stay in the office – it spills into every area of life.
As coaches, we’re not just helping clients make decisions – we’re helping them raise their energy frequency. You can’t build a better life when your energy is stuck in survival mode.
In fact, data from the International Coaching Federation (ICF) shows that clients consistently report improvements in work performance, communication, and well-being after working with a coach – each of which correlates with an uplift in mental and emotional energy.
What Drains Us
From my own coaching and consulting work, these are the five biggest energy drainers I see:
- Overcommitting
- Lack of alignment (especially in career or relationships)
- Comparison loops (hello, social media) grow
- Poor boundaries
- Not knowing what truly lights you up
These aren’t just annoyances – they’re leaks in your energy field. When you fix those leaks, something incredible happens: people show up differently. They speak more clearly, think more creatively, and make braver choices.
What Drains Us
I often start with a simple question: Where is your energy going - and is it worth the cost?
- Energy inputs (what fuels you)
- Energy drains (what depletes you)
- Energy intention (where you want to channel it)
Sometimes, it’s not about working harder. It’s about restoring energy so you can lead, live, and love with power again.
This is where true coaching magic happens. Not in the spreadsheets or the frameworks, but in the energetic shift that turns “I don’t know if I can” into “I’ve got this.”
Energy is Contagious
If you’re a coach, leader, or business owner – your energy sets the tone. People feel it. They trust it. Or they don’t.
So, ask yourself: ✨ Is your energy aligned with your mission? ✨ Are you leaking power – or generating it?
Because in a world that glorifies hustle, choosing to protect and direct your energy is an act of leadership.
